Sensible Micro’s quality management team recently attended SAE’s AS6081 Implementation Training in Merritt Island, Florida on January 22 and 23. The class involved an elite group of distributors and industry professionals who were interested in adding the new standard to current quality management systems. The standard, which was released in November of 2012, is the first audit-able certification by SAE for Counterfeit Electronic Parts Avoidance and Mitigation Practices. AS6081 was developed specifically for component distributors who typically support mission critical manufacturers and contractors. AS6081 offers a strict and effective solution for end users compliant to AS5553A and/or government contractors adhering to flow down requirements delivered in the NDAA FY12 (National Defense Authorization Act 2012, Section 818).
Currently, ANAB is in the process of developing their AS6081 accreditation program. However, industry professionals believe that auditing bodies such as ANAB / NQA will be available to audit within the next six months.
Sensible Micro is currently able to comply with AS6081 requirements until certification is available from an accredited body. If you would like more information about the AS6081 standard head over to sae.org to obtain a copy.
